Goalkeeper Adam Collin has agreed a deal to stay at Carlisle United until the end of the 2019/20 season.

Cumbrian Collin, 34, had an extension clause activated by the club in March but had been in talks with the Blues over an improved contract and "an agreement" was reached between the two parties this afternoon.

Collin, from Great Salkeld, was rewarded for an impressive season between the sticks, claiming four awards at United’s end-of-season presentation night on Sunday after being named the News & Star readers’ top player.

Manager Steven Pressley said: "This is fantastic news for the club.

"We had the trigger clause in his contract, but he’s obviously, been in talks with David and it’s good for us that they’ve found a solution.

"It’s really positive news and a great bit of business for the club. He made a huge impact with both the way he played and how he conducted himself last season, and some of his performances were top class.

"A big part of becoming a good keeper is being able to deal with the psychological aspects of some of the situations you find yourself in, and Adam is an experienced keeper who is very comfortable in how he goes about things.

"That gives him confidence and assurance in everything he does and that is then reflected in how he plays when he goes out on to the pitch.

"In terms of what we’re looking to put together for next season, this is superb for us.

"The one thing you want as a manager is a solid base to build from, and knowing that Adam will be with us is a big part of that jigsaw already in place."

Goalkeeping coach Craig Wight, who extended his stay yesterday and is now the "head of goalkeeping" at the club, added on United's website: "It’s a big statement of the club’s intent for next season to have such an influential player stay with us.

"It’s been a pleasure working alongside him and helping him to achieve what he has over this past season.

"And I’m looking forward to working with him again through what we hope will be another good campaign."
